New to FL, where to start?
Okay, as first let me say hello everyone! Smile

I am brand new to the whole music production thing, but since I'm a really big music fan (generally trance and house) I'd like to play with producing music as well...

Now the big question comes....

Where to start with the whole thing?
I'm really confused and don't know where to begin with all this...I got FL studio, nexus (with a few expansions, but 90% of them is bugged or idk...it gives me error messages when I click on the sound)..., z3ta+, vanguard...but the problem is I don't know almost anything about FL studio and these plugins...

So please, if anyone could give me some suggestions where should I begin the game? Smile I would really love to learn to produce music as hobby...

Thanks in advance!

RE: New to FL, where to start?
Hi Wex,

Congrats on getting FL Studio - I really like it a lot. I was in same boat as you - completely lost when I first started. There are multiple ways to do this, but I would start learning how to use the piano roll. That is where you will build your basic melodies. You want to learn how to assign patterns for each track to begin with and then you want add a channel to each pattern and when you add a channel you will select the VST you want to work with. You will need to assign your tracks to your mixer so you can add effects such as reverb etc...

That is what worked for me when I started.

I would highly, highly recommend using You Tube. I have been looking up stuff on You Tube for over a year now and have learned so much that way! So many nice people out there share great information on FL Studio and once you get comfortable with the basics, start looking for how to do tricks in FL for trance and house tracks. You can also order books on Amazon for FL Studio.

Here is something to get you started.

Good Luck! Smile

Hey!
Thanks alot for your reply! Smile

I have a problem with Nexus...With most of expansions I have, when I double-click a sound, it gives me the following error message:

but the installation of those exp packs went just fine, without any warnings or errors...

P.S: I'm using FL Studio v10 Producer Edition

Hey Wex,

Sorry, I have not encountered that error before - that is strange. If nobody can help you here, try another FL forum called "theflipinsideforum.com" . When I do have technical problems, I have gotten a lot of successful responses from them - check them out and see if someone can help you with that - hope it works out!

RE: New to FL, where to start?
Hello wex,

Learning how to use FL Studio takes time...

Watching tutorials and reading stuff will help... A LOT... but trust me you will learn the most by just doing it yourself, playing around with every single VST and VSTi you find in your way..

However, I would recommend you to take a look at the following PDF file named : FL Studio Bible

FL Studio Bible Download Link

Hope you find it useful!

Have a good day!

RE: New to FL, where to start?
When I got FL Studio, I was the same, it was a bit overwhelming. But one of the best things I ever did was discover Youtube & all the fabulous tutorials on it from beginners to advanced users. There are tutorials on this fine site too. My advice is to check out as many as you can & you will be producing in no time!

Hope it helps!

RE: New to FL, where to start?
To be honest there is a huge bundle of tutorials built into fl studio! I would give "Cool Stuff" a look. Give them a look and study how they work. That's how I got off the ground with this wonder full DAW. I would then give sytrus and 3xosc a try. There very powerful synthesisers if you can learn how to use them properly!

Hers one great example of 3xosc in action.

I hope you can learn as much as you can from the built in projects and tutorials, and hopefully the synth demo!

Love~

(Oh god, did I just grave dig? Silly noob making me think this was a hot new post.)
